Designing with Purpose, Grounded in Culture, and Oriented to the Future
📍 Venue: Jade Banquet, Ahmedabad
📅 Date: 6th June 2025
🕕 Time: 5 PM onwards
After the resounding success of its Kolkata edition, Design Perspective 2025 now travels to Ahmedabad — a city where tradition and modernity meet in architectural harmony. Home to a design legacy shaped by global icons like Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn, and nurtured by the profound vision of Balkrishna V. Doshi, Ahmedabad stands as a living laboratory of architecture and urban thought. With institutions like CEPT University and an environment that celebrates experimentation, Ahmedabad offers the perfect backdrop for an evening that promises not just conversations, but revelations.
A Platform for Provocative Thinking
Design Perspective has always been more than just a speaker series — it’s a growing dialogue. It brings together architects, designers, students, and thinkers who are not just responding to the built environment but actively redefining it. The Ahmedabad edition continues this mission with two powerful keynote presentations from architects who embody the values of contextual, ethical, and community-rooted design.
Keynote 1: PAVA Architects – Reimagining Design Through Environment, Culture, and Memory
Based in Bangkok, PAVA Architects is an award-winning interdisciplinary practice founded by Pacharapan Ratananakorn and Varat Limwibul. Their work operates at the intersection of environmental resilience, cultural identity, and architectural innovation.
With a deep commitment to cross-disciplinary research, PAVA explores how architecture, landscape, and urbanism can respond holistically to climate challenges, urbanization, and cultural shifts. Their projects — from the Kaomai Museums and Tea Barn, which won at the World Architecture Festival, to the Mekong House and the Kaomai Estate 1955 — reflect a commitment to adaptive reuse, heritage conservation, and community-based design.
Their design process is rooted in context, memory, and ecological awareness — viewing architecture not as a static object but as a living, evolving system. As global educators and researchers, Pacharapan and Varat bring perspectives shaped by cultural nuance and global discourse. Their keynote in Ahmedabad will offer a unique window into how design can be a medium of revival, resistance, and regeneration.
Keynote 2: Rahul Bhushan – Reviving the Spirit of the Himalayas
Rahul Bhushan, the founder of NORTH, is not just an eco-architect — he is a revivalist, educator, and changemaker. Based in the Indian Himalayas, Rahul’s work goes far beyond buildings. It’s about ecosystems — of craft, community, tradition, and sustainability.
At NORTH, Rahul leads a multidisciplinary initiative that brings together artists, craftspeople, and designers to work towards a shared goal: preserving and innovating upon indigenous Himalayan practices like Kathkuni and Dhajji Dewari. His projects blend deep research, local wisdom, and hands-on craftsmanship to build resilient, natural structures rooted in heritage and adapted for the future.
Named “Man of the Mountains” by Architectural Digest India in 2023, Rahul is also known for conducting workshops and courses that equip young designers and artisans with the skills and sensibility needed for context-sensitive architecture. His keynote will be a soulful journey into how design can become a tool for empowerment, resilience, and belonging.
