Design Perspective 2026 : Where Chennai’s Design Community Comes Together

Evening filled with collaborations and interactive discussions.

On 20th March, Design Perspective – Chennai 2026 took place at The Leela Palace Chennai, With registrations commencing at 5:00 PM, the evening welcomed Chennai’s architecture and interior design community for an engaging, knowledge-led gathering. The event celebrated the strength of local practice while also bringing in wider global design perspectives, creating a meaningful platform for industry leaders, emerging designers, and design enthusiasts to connect and take part in insightful conversations.

Guidance from veterans of the architecture industry will help in shaping a better community for Chennai.

A Familiar Community, Charged with New Energy

The audience brought together a diverse mix of architects, interior designers, practice founders, young studios, and project leads. One of the most noticeable aspects of the evening was how engaged everyone remained from start to finish. The atmosphere felt distinctly rooted in the local design landscape, with familiar members of Chennai’s community, genuine introductions, and discussions that stayed closely tied to the city and its realities.

Even once the official programme had ended, a large number of attendees remained behind to keep the conversations going. It was a clear reflection of one of Design Perspective’s greatest strengths: creating a space where meaningful dialogue carries on long after the event itself is over.

Designing with Nature: Green Elements in Architecture and Urban Design

Ar. Achmad focused on how architecture can respond more thoughtfully and responsibly to environmental challenges by integrating natural systems into the design process in a meaningful way. In the session, the architect explained the role of green elements such as landscape, vegetation, shaded open spaces, and ecological buffers. Through projects from his own practice such as the Morawa Mosques in North Sumatra, Department of Environmental Planning of Jakarta Province, Sampali Clubhouse in North Sumatra, Finance Office in Bali, Institut Teknologi Bandung Business Incubation Centre in Cirebon he demonstrated how these elements were not treated as add-ons, but as integral parts of the design approach from the very beginning. His work showed how architecture and urban design can create healthier, more resilient, and more sustainable environments by improving climate responsiveness, strengthening the relationship between built and natural systems, supporting long-term ecological thinking, and enhancing the everyday experience and comfort of users.

Context, Community, and Continuity in Architectural Practice

Ar. Suditya Sinha focused on selected projects from his own practice, using them to explain the studio’s design philosophy and working approach. Referring to projects such as the Paniya Village Maternity Center, Pant Cottage, Temple of Stone and Light, Baha’i House of Worship in Bihar Sharif, and the ongoing Memorial for the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, he illustrated how architecture is shaped through sustained engagement with site, community, memory, material, and process. The presentation emphasized that architectural work is not limited to final built form, but also includes research, documentation, workshops, preservation, and collaborative learning. Overall, he offered a project-based understanding of practice that was reflective, context-driven, and deeply rooted in social and environmental responsibility.

The Real Momentum Built After the Sessions

The formal sessions were the starting point and the conversations that followed became the evening’s real high point. The move into a more informal setting felt seamless, as people stayed back, shared contacts and references, and carried forward discussions sparked during the programme. Some of these exchanges also opened the door to initial collaboration intent and future meetings, making the event feel less like a single gathering and more like the beginning of something larger.
